The University’s School of Railways and Infrastructure Development (SRID) in Sekondi-Takoradi has graduated its first cohort of 235 students. This marks a significant achievement in the University’s efforts to advance engineering and technology education.

The graduating class recorded impressive academic performances, with over 30 students attaining first-class honours Degrees. The students specialized in various disciplines, including Geomatic Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental and Safety Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

A key feature of the programmes at SRID is the additional Certificate in Railway Technology, which students acquire alongside their bachelor’s degrees. The certification ensures that graduates gain both broad engineering knowledge and expertise in railway technology. Specialized courses offered in the programme included Introduction to Railway Engineering, Permanent Way Engineering, Rail Planning and Operations, Signalling and Telecommunication, Rolling Stock Engineering, and Railway Traffic.

During the Graduation, the Founding Dean of SRID, Associate Professor Yakubu Issaka acknowledged the graduates’ perseverance despite challenges. β€œThese graduates have shown dedication and determination throughout their studies and we are confident they will excel in their respective fields and contribute meaningfully to industry and development”, he said.

The graduation of the first cohort represents a milestone for UMaT-SRID, with its graduates prepared to take on roles in engineering, technology, and infrastructure development. Their training equips them to contribute to local and global industries.

UMaT congratulates the class of 2023/2024 and wishes them success in their future endeavours.
